Title: Overhaul
Post by: No Nice Guy on March 19, 2014, 01:14:04 PM
Sorry about the quality of the pictures.

So I had a realization recently, that I don't really wanna keep trying to copy Trey's sound.  So I changed up my pedalboard, got a new guitar, and a new amp (though that's gotten a bit weird).  Anyhow, here's the changelog:

Guitar:  Michael Kelly Hourglass

This thing is pretty heavy, but it sounds great.  I love the way it looks, and the volume knobs have a coil tap set up with a push/pull.  Here's how she looks:

Pedalboard:  Change.

I'll just do a straight before/after shot for here:

For an amp, I traded my Blues Jr for an AC15, but the guy wanted to trade back.  I'm trying to get a HRD right now, at which point I'd change my rig up to do this:

I'd go guitar -> tuner -> wah -> ts9 -> ross clone (possibly another ts9 ahead/behind if I decide 'ah screw it') -> whammy -> looper -> amp

From there, in the effects loop I'd go Trem -> Reverb -> Delay -> Superego.  Thing is, I'd have those four up on a table or something so I could start messing around with them when things get weird.

I'm also shifting my general playing style.  I'm less suited for a 'traditional' jam band right now, but working towards one of the EDM/Jamband mixes you see a lot now (Bisco, Lotus, Dosio, Dopapod, etc).  Might start bringing a keyboard and synth with me, just for the extra element.

Anyhow, what's next on my list is some way to get those cables less messy.  Anyone have a good idea?

Pedal party!  Yeah I'm with you on not emulating TA's sound.  Trying new things is always best.  Nice toys.  Plus that copy of Beowulf
