Anyone know what the deal is with Trey's use of the Ernie Ball volume pedal?
I am guessing it could be used for the reverb decay. He changes volume and tone settings so much on his guitar that i don't see why he would use one strictly for volume.

Volume / tone on the guitar are pre-effects, so it changes the overdrive more than the overall volume. A volume pedal after the dirt pedals effects overall volume, but not overdrive/tone. But I also personally don't see the need for it.
I do this, and find it useful for controlling overall level within a band context as well as for layering different loops for violin like swells but I haven't really heard Trey do that..
