Title: New pickups in Koa #1
Post by: seriesnuns on July 31, 2015, 05:12:55 PM
Found this pic. Looks like double fixed  staggered pole humbuckers?

Anyone want to guess what they could be?

If i am not mistaken Trey has always used Seymour Duncan '59's as his neck and bridge pickups.

They were defiantly swapped out since GD50.

In Chicago he had his pickups reversed with chrome covers.

Since he swapped this black uncovered pickup with what looks like to me staggered pole humbucker on both windings.

I wonder if he's  getting more of the box thinking since GD50. I like how he's rotating his guitars now. Although after listening to Austin I think his rig is dialed in for Koa #1.

He's been really switching out the guitars. Last night he had the Ocedoc out on Kill Devil Falls, and it was awesome. That's still my favorite guitar tone-wise. So far, by my count, we've seen Old Reliable, Koa 1, and Ocedoc on this tour.

He has new pickups or just took the covers off on the Ocedoc too

Is there any difference between the "nonlinear" function on the nanoverb and the "reverse" function on microverb?  I have one but not the other and seems they're the same to me.

Anyone know?  Or have both and try it out

Ps - very cool effect.  These little rack units do a ton of stuff that's fun for spacey jams

He doesn't use the Nanoverb in his signal chain. There's an interview somewhere with Brian Brown i believe where he states its just there to take up space so there's not a whole in the rack.

That said, the non-linear program is a gated delay a la Brian Eno. The reverse program on the microverb is the reverb trail played in backwards so they will sound completely different

Seymor Duncan Stag Mags are a possibility

Trey used the Koa #2 in Nashville... it still had the Duncan 59's and those were turned around like the Schallers in the Maple at GD50.

He's used each guitar this tour except for the Spruce and green Maple now....

Also, the new pickups in the Ocedoc seem shinier than the ones in Koa #1.. though they both look like Stag Mags?

Yes, he used it for one song, but was on the Ocedoc for almost the entire show.

I know SD 59's get thrown around, but I am pretty sure he's got Schaller Golden 50's in there.  Can anyone confirm?  I'll ask Brian in Mexico  8)

The site froze for us when we were trying to get a package - lame! They should've done a lottery system. I found a picture of setbreak in Mexico:

Someone on the gear page reportedly spoke to PL who confirmed that these are stag mags.

I don't know if I believe this. Honestly I think he just put rods in the 59. A stag mag uses A2 rods. Which imo A2 only sound good split in the bridge position. Too much output and to dark for the neck position. I've never tried rods but I did put an A2 bar in my bridge Custom 5 (which made it a custom 2) and it was too dark even in the bridge. But a custom is hotter than a 59 so I guess it would sound a little better. It's hard to believe he put A2's in there. I like A4 and A3 over the normal A5 in the 59's. His lead bridge tone has sounded a little more rude this tour though. Why doesn't Trey just join this forum already!
