He only used that thing for a couple shows this past fall.
That's interesting. I did not know that. I know it left at one point but I guess it made its way back in...
And I can find the pics....where?
It probably left, was heavily modified to point where it no longer resembles the basic product you would buy from the guy's website, and returned to Trey's rig. ;D
But, yeah, anyway, to echo Walker: where are the pics?
To derail the current line of questioning somewhat, say a person wanted to use a tube preamp in their rig. And pardon my stupidity, but I just want to make sure I get this right, that person would also require a power amp correct? So their would be a tube preamp, power amp and cab, do I have that right? What sort of power amp would be used, how would you decide how much power you need?
Thanks bros.
I've only seen one pic of Trey's rig with the SMS CTP, the one that was posted here. I'd be anxious to see additional photos as well. Here's another question, why would he cart the mesa boogie around? Or rather, have his techs/roadies cart it around? Would it not make sense to just have a rack mounted power amp to power the tube preamp? Assuming of course what I wrote above is the correct line of thinking.......
If you're asking about the logistics of Trey carting something around. Don't bother. The Phish machine generates millions on a consistent basis. Have you heard of the several-hour long, pre-show, routine his guitar strings go through, on a daily basis?
If you want to know more about the whole separate preamp to power amp thing, study (a couple good google searchs count a lot here) Garcia, and Trey mid-nineties.
