Fellow gear heads. I just thought it might be useful to all if you put your current rig in the signature footer so that when we are all talking, we can see where we are all coming from and how involved each of us are. I think it could promt some extra conversation and maybe even some critisism, like "dude, why are you using that shitty pedal in your rig!" or "sweet man, you have a Languedoc!". Anyway, if you keep it up to date, it will be updated everywhere you posted and I would be able to associate you better as that guy with that certain rig. No pressure here but if you think you would like to join me, feel free. As you can see in my footer, i have a lousy rig. Now beat on me for it! :P
Well, I won't beat on you for your rig because I just don't subscribe to that theory (hey, all of us are always learning) and quite frankly I like some of that stuff in your rig, but I will oblige and add mine.

I know your not the beating type. Others dish out, shall we say...tough love? I think by constantly having my rig visible, it will keep me on my toes and constantly evaluate. It's bittersweet I suppose. Thanks for joining in on the suggestion.
Cool
Done
Been doing a lot of recording, so haven't used a speaker cab in a while this is what my recording setup is currently.
by the way your right this will be fun to see if everyone does it.
Great idea!!! I can't wait to add more guitars to my list...however, it's been nice lately to not actually want anymore effects.
Changed my picture too.
Great idea. I just downsize my rig bigtime. Got rid of a mutron, boomerang, whammy and true bypass looper. This was two-fold, I felt I didn't really need all that stuff and wasn't getting enough use out of those things, and I wanted a smaller rig. Well, I guess it was three-fold. My pending AO Koa guitar was the main reason, I was raising funds. Anyways, it's in my sig. I really enjoy the stripped down version, and I never thought I would. Can't friggin' wait for my AO!!!!
I second that Forbin. Can't wait for my AO either! I hear that Emma Discumbobulator is pretty sweet but it seems a bit pricey.. Is it worth it?
haha, suckers, i'm ahead of both of you :P
Damn you Patrick.. get Andrew to finish yours up so he can get mine all set. I wish I could have mine by my birthday in Feb.. tho I know that's not likely :)

Yeah, I'm heading up to Maine in a couple weeks to meet with the man himself. I'm gonna slip some crystal meth in his drink, try to get him addicted. He'll be banging out 3 guitars a day by the time I'm done with him.

Well, I went from an original Mutron III to a Discombobulator, so the emma was the less pricey of the two. I've tried a few envelope filters and not counting the Mutron, the Emma sounds the best to my ears. It's true bypass and is just a really well made pedal. I feel fortunate to have it in my rig.
Patrick, a plague on your house. That is all.

I agree w/ Forbin, it's a great pedal. I've owned the Haz(mat...har har) Mu-Tron III and sold it...didn't like the sound. I've heard the original Mu-Tron III's are nice, but can't find one anywhere and when I do, they're usually beat to shit. The Emma is a bit pricey but like he said it's a really well built pedal and you'll get the envelope sound you want out of it, for sure. I'd definitely reco' getting one if you're in the market for an envelope filter.

Just want to say I like all the variety I'm seeing in these effects boards. I love how you can personalize your tone through different pedal combinations and it's good to see we arn't all Trey clones.
I have a reissue Vintage MXR Script Dynacomp on the way, can't wait to try it.

Sure, make him an addict. You can't complain when your guitar arrives, you open the case, it's an orange squier with AO written in crayon on the headstock and fake f holes on the body drawn with a sharpie...
Don't forget to tip your luthier this holiday season. The proper amount is usually 1/10 of your annual salary.

but that's exactly what i ordered...
With all the copper wiring removed for good measure.
I just ordered a Trailer Trash Pro board on ebay, gunna get a loopmaster 5 channel strip too and wire up a sick board.
Ho ho ho! Sounds like everyone is getting ready to stuff there stockings with goodies. Bye the way I'm enjoying the diversity of everyones rig as well. I'm Googling some of these pedals and guitars I've never heard of for educational purposes.

How do you compare your Analogman silver od-9 to the '82 ts-9? I'm playing through 2 '82s and have a 3rd as well as Keeley plus as a backup. I've recently acquired a mint condition barely used od-9 (w/ the true bypass) that I'm going to send to Analogman, but I don't know whether I should just do the vintage/classic mod or the silver mod. I'm thinking that I'd most likely use the modded od-9 in place of the an '82 ts-9 with the gain turned all the way up (as I use my other one fairly clean and is usually always on so doesn't really need to be true bypass). Anyway, any input would be appreciated. I'm looking to get as close to the Trey tone of the mid 90's for my phish cover band.
After the dust settles from all the tone wars of different effects and stomp boxes, I'm gonna have quite a sale of extra gear that didn't win the battle.

The silver mod is more clear. Almost less of a mid hump. The '82 as you know is really warm sounding. If you send your od9 to analogman I would definetly get the silver mod. The vintage classic or 808 mod only changes 2 resistors and maybe the opamp chip if it isn't already a jrc4558d. That's a lot of money for not much mod. You could do it yourself for a few bucks. His silver mod does sound really good though and is worth it IMO. If mid 90's trey is what you are looking for you've got it now with the 2 '82's. Earlier 90's and I'd say get a ts10 with a little drive and a lot of level for your cleaner sound then drive that with an '82. I've been modding tube screamers lately changing 2 resistors to allen bradley carbon comp of a different value and installing a chip craddle and changing the opamp for the 808 mod. Then changing 3 caps to a different value of a better quality and swaping a resistor to one of a different value better quality for the phat mod. It ends up sounding really good. It gets cleaner or dirtier with a lot more level. If I was playing out, I would put one of those in place of my '82 and use the silver od9 for the cleaner sound.

I agree. I use 12vdc for tube screamers and you can notice the difference.

and an internal gain pot.
I do not agree as there is already a gain pot with a easily accessed knob on the outside of the pedal labeled DRIVE. Tucking another inside the pedal doesn't make sense to me.

Really that's ok to do ? Hmm I might have to try that some day.

IE Turning the internal pot down makes the external drive control work differently. If i crank a mini pot all the way counter clockwise, the distortion is turned way down, while bass and volume go up (= cleaner boost), go the other way, less volume, more grit less flabby bass.
If you want your drive pot to have the more or less gain you need to do what keeley does and change the value of the resistor going to the drive pot. I guess you could also change the pot itself from 500k to 1m. I'm sure you enjoy opening your pedal just to tweak that trim pot but for most people that would be a pain in the ass.

One of mine has 3 mini toggles. One for more high mids, bass, and lastly, treble. They all make a very noticable difference the over all sound at both higher and lower settings. I would reccomend modding out 1 TS9 with ALL of the toggles, find out what setting you prefer for high gain and low gain pedals, and write it down. On my newest black TS9, the mini toggles were omitted all together, as its preset inside the box.
With the toggles you are selecting different cap, resistors or diodes depending on which one we are talking about. Typically you change these with different values until you find what you like when you mod the pedal. I can see using these if you have a hard time deciding what you like or if you want to show people what different mods do to the sound of the pedal. That's why you don't have toggles on your newest ts9. Because you settled on certain values that you liked and by "preset" you mean soldered in place.

yeah i use 12 volts on my Ts9s definitly a difference
Does anyone know if Trey uses 12 volts on his screamers?

I don't think there is an info on this but noticed your using a whipple in your wah. Nice. I had one briefly and dug it. I recently tried to get that guy to give me a deal on buying 4 of those inductors to mod some wah pedals I have laying around but he shot me down saying that $25 was the deal price. They do sound good. Eventually I will buy 4. I can't find any better options. The fasels are hit or miss.

SourD, I am very close to Dr. Steam Whipple; in fact he hired me to design his first dedicated pcb for the Whipple Wah. These are now available for purchase. I built my own wah from scratch after we ordered the first boards. These pcbs, his handwound inductors (500 mHenry), and the high quality components (including ICAR pot) make this wah amazing. I'm not much of an expert on many things around here, but I know that the Whipple is something special. If you need any help in this matter, you just ask because I have extreme leverage here.
I've not posted any videos yet of my Whipple Wah but I soon will. Sooo crisp, organic, full range, harmonic and tasty.

Orange, Id like to hear some more about why the whipple sounds so good. Seems like you know them inside and out

I have yet to get my rig fully updated, I'll have to see how the money tree blooms after the holidays. My Whammy II is in the shop right now so I have to see how much that digital bitch is going to run me, but here goes!
Gibson ES-339 Semi-Hollow 30/60 > Korg Pitchblack > Fulltone FD2 Mosfet > EHX Memory Man w/ Haz> EHX Nano Small Stone> Radial Passive ABY Box >A To Mesa/Boogie Nomad 45 for dirty tones> B Output to Boomerang + Phrase Sampler > MIUSA Fender HRD DEluxe for clean tones.
Insert Whammy II w/ true bypass mod once it gets back from the doctors, and, ideally, I'd like to get a 3-4 loop-switcher just so I can group all the modulation effects together and put the Boomerang by itself.
We should post some pictures? A holiday album would be pretty funny stuff!
How did you get a good sound out of that Mosdet Fulltone? I tried to use one for a minute, couldnt get it dialed in.

And I really like the idea of tipping your luthier. I'll add my rig at some point, too. Good thinking, HappyOrange!

I'm a big fan of getting most of your gain from the amp and I just use the Mosfet for a fat boost when playing chords, or for an extra trebly boost when raging the Mesa; here's my settings. They're all clock values.
Volume- 11
Tone- 1
FM switch activated
Overdrive- 11
Boost- 1
I find that when I am using large amounts of amp gain the signal compresses quite nicely.

Ya mon, my buddy was a studio tech for Stevie Ray, and apparently, he used to turn his Marshall's all the way up. And he wouldnt just have 2 or 4, hed bring 10-12 of these huge amps. Plug them all in, turn them all the way up, and go through to see which one he "didnt like". Tube saturation is the shit.
Yeah, I have a Mesa Nomad 45 that's kind of a bitch to get a really open tone out of, but once you can it really pays off. The fulltone really helps to achieve that "openness," that's the main reason I use it.
I love the nomads, tons of tonal options, lots of buttons to play with. My buddy double d uses one at a weekly open mic night around the corner. Pristine clean tones aplenty. Never really pushed it much though (as far as gain goes). But tube saturation is why I use an old Deluxe Reverb. Man you can control what they do when, and how, once you get really comfortable with one. I cant say the same for a DRRI, but iam sure its close. at 22 watts you wouldnt think the tones kept coming past a point, but they do.
Yeah, I am debating on selling the Nomad and a USA HRD to get a DRRI, the Mesa is cool and all I just don't really need all that stuff, or all that gain.
