Trying to get a list of Phish bluegrass tunes together (originals or covers). Am I missing any?
Ginseng Sullivan
My Sweet One
My Mind's Got A Mind Of It's Own
Beauty Of My Dreams
Rocky Top
The Old Home Place
Poor Heart
Nellie Kane
Uncle Pen
Scent Of A Mule
Water In The Sky (fast)
Paul & Silas
Daniel Saw The Stone
Sparkle
Would Sweet Virgina be considered bluegrass? Kind of has that vibe.....
I suppose it flirts with it, but to me it's more country-ish than bluegrass.
How about Water in the Sky (fast version)
And Paul and Silas
Good calls, Collingslaw. And welcome to the forum! ;D
Runaway Jim..............(Is this blue Grass, Yes... Is it Country, Yes.... Is it Rock, Yes....)
Possum..............(see above)
I Didnt Know..............(Maybe if it had guitar!)
Daniel Saw the Stone..............(Maybe more biblical the bluegrassical, again bluegrass sounding roots)
Name..............(Could be Country and Western!)
The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony..............(Try the rhythm on acoustic and you will agree, its pretty grassy also jazzy)
Pin In A Pen..............(They did this just once as I recall)
When The Cactus Are In Bloom..............(Another single I think)
These guys just confuse the shit out of a bunch of musical genres, every song can be everything.
Also technically if you slow down real bluegrass it becomes country by default!
I think Sparkle is Bluegrass
Ahh, I forgot Daniel Saw The Stone. Good call on Sparkle too, I agree.
It's not bluegrass if there's no banjo IMHO... or at least if one wouldn't fit if added.
just wanna note that Phish did play a bluegrass version of Good Times Bad Times once.
My Long Journey Home?

My Long Journey Home?
NICE CALL!!! I'm pretty sure they played that at the same show as GTBT bluegrass.
Such a great tune! I just love that show so much, Cracklin' Rosie just makes me laugh everytime I hear it, never fails. My mom is a huge Neil Diamond fan and I played it for her and then I gave her Hoist and she loves it.

Yup. I have afriend that plays in a bluegrass band and goes to bluegrass festivals a lot and he says the "purists" will walk away from a band pissed if they have a drummer. Some of the songs mentioned here I would agree have influences but are not really bluegrass. Daniel saw the stone is quite a stretch. I always thought of it as a gospel song. That's like saying jiboo is bluegrass because of that pull off lick. Just influenced.
If Mike's not playing banjo, it's no good :)
i know its a skynyrd cover, but the ballad of curtis leow is a really good live song that has that blue grass-y twang to it. i think phish does it really well actually
