Title: Speaking of tweed amps....
Post by: Walker done done on April 18, 2009, 03:19:57 PM
....I'm looking @ a Fender Custom '57 Tweed Twin on Monday.  Guy's asking $1400 for it....I'm betting I can get it for less.  Not a bad deal at all.  Any thoughts on this amp guys?

What a weird amp.  Too round of a sound, too bluesy, too straight forward.  Not enough of something, that's for sure.  I can't really explain it.  I was trying to explain it to raisinfreen but all that came out was gobblygook.  I found I needed to crank the amp to 5+ just to get loud enough, but then at that point it was too loud for the band setting.  Rerally an in-your-face sound that I found unappealing.  I want to to be "in your face" but I want to do it with my OWN presentation, not the amp forcing itself on you.  Like a wild horse that wouldn't listen or something.  The rest of the band even agreed that it wasn't the right tones.  I tell ya, as much as I need to get a new amp, one thing I love about the HRD that I currently am playing through is the exrta drive channel.  It cuts through on a solo so effin' nicely, like riding on a surfboard through a nice wave.  I'm stilll really surprised I didn't "like" a $3200 amp.  Go figure.
