Title: Direct mic'ing amp
Post by: Stecks on December 10, 2012, 11:49:40 AM
Anyone got any suggestions for a good mic?   I have a condenser but its rather "hot" and picks up too much background noise.  Any suggestions, tips, rhetoric, criticisms, propaganda or blasphemy would be greatly appreciated!

For a guitar amp I'd get a Shure SM-57. It's the go to pretty much. Inexpensive and sounds spectacular.

You can check it out here:

As an alternative to an sm-57, which is great in its own right, I mostly use a Sennheiser e609 silver which is about the same price as a 57. In my experience, I have found that it is a bit more neutral in it's frequency response.

Also, any of the jam recordings done by my band Sauce would be the e609 on my guitar. Take a listen if you have a chance!
