It's so easy, and so cheap, and in the process you'll learn enough, or at least learn how to go about learning more than enough, to build anything you want from then on.  Just don't buy the kit itself, even though it's a mere 55 bucks; instead, buy the circuit board from these people and get the parts from online surplus stores.
