Saw this post on CL in Maine today.  Not really interested in it (I don't think), just wanted to see what y'all's thoughts were on this amp?

This is a 1978 Fender Pro Reverb 212 70 Watt amplifier! It has new tubes and one replacement 30 watt 12" speaker. It has two channels: vibrato and clean, as well as reverb.

This amp is a gem. In the previous year it has been serviced at Buckdancer's Choice so it is in great condition. Plenty of headroom and high end for screaming leads, plenty of bass for those chikka-chikka rhythms. I don't want to sell it but I spent too much on Christmas gifts and now it has to go.

Thanks for looking!

Sounds like a nice price.  That power transformer is rusty as hell, but some people actually prefer the tone of rusty ones.

Basically a silverface twin. Nice amp. I don't know what that bullshit about the tone of a rusty power transformer is all about.

Sorry if that sounded harsh. I remember laughing the last time I read that article too. Rust on a transformer will eventually lead to failure from shorts between the laminates. You can run your tubes too hot as well and it will sound best just before they blow. Why would that guy want your transformer to go bad? Oh yeah...

Yeah sometime your words are a little rough around the edges like that transformer but I appreciate your disarming words.  Just reporting knowledge.  Also did you know Mercury will actually make new transformers, then "age" them and impart their own rust.  Then they will send you a brand new rusty transformer?  Yeah i know...

Rough around the edges?  Really?  Compared to our frie...our *ahem* colleague, Poster, sourD is a cupcake (in terms of word choice, of course).

I don't understand why people post "knowledge" without knowing. It is kinda frustrating. Your post mentioned that rust on a tranny would improve tone. More highs? Less mids? You probably never owned an amp old enough to have rust on the tranny but you are willing to suggest to someone else as advice that is a good thing because you read something on the internet. Let me give you a heads up. There probably are not any local singles waiting to hook up with you and you probably won't grow your cock 4" in three weeks either. I feel the same way when somebody suggests blackfacing an amp they have never played through or having a firm belief that a master volume on a silverface twin is a bad thing that needs to be removed like a tumor even though they have never owned one. In my experience a master volume makes that twin a useable amp at normal stage volumes.

Dude all I said is that some people prefer that rust tone.  Did the article not state that the author found the tone to be better in some situations?  So I'm just saying I didn't make it up or anything.  I didn't mean first hand knowledge as in I have experienced it.  I didn't say I ever played through one.

Should people abstain from saying that a Languedoc sounds amazing because they never actually played one?

I never use terms like "bullshit" when people post opinions or reference information.  I like how I'm the bad guy in this situation.  I think I've been nothing but nice to everyone on here.  Thanks for the love.
