I am trying to learn how trey does those rifs where he is sliding back and forth between two notes and then hit random notes an octave up... For insctance in darien Jam #1  (9/14/00) at 9:20 he does this. He uses this riff a lot in 2000 to build up jam or to keep them going... any one know tricks on how he does this, or even know what i am talking about?

In regard to what Stiles was asking, I have heard that too. Is it an actual octave change? Who cares I guess it sounds good. Try simple hammer-ons (not sure if thats the correct way to word that) then hit the note directly below the note you hammered onto. Then repeat hitting the note directly above. I will attempt a quick tab: (Be kind, its my first time)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------9---------------------------------------------(The tension or higher note?)
-----7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9-----7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9--7h9--------- (Tapping lightly and releasing)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------9----- (The release or lower note?)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Others may chime in and tell me I am way off, thats great. Maybe I will learn something new.

Octave displacement.  I love it...  If i Had time to tab I'd tab some licks I use that I feel are Trey like.  They use alot of chromatics, octave displacement, odd meter licks that you repeat until the cycle restarts and the first note of the lick is once again on the primary downbeat of 1.

im glad you mentioned this... i have a feeling he does this in one of the antelopes too.... and comes a sudden stop at marco escuandoles part...

I was thinking of something more like this...

------------------------------------------------
--------10------------10----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
---5/7--------5/7-------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

just hold the formation like youre fretting:

-----------------------------------------
---10-------------------------------------
----x-------------------------------------
---7---------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
you know?
