Direct mic'ing amp

Anyone got any suggestions for a good mic?   I have a condenser but its rather "hot" and picks up too much background noise.  Any suggestions, tips, rhetoric, criticisms, propaganda or blasphemy would be greatly appreciated!

For a guitar amp I'd get a Shure SM-57. It's the go to pretty much. Inexpensive and sounds spectacular.

As an alternative to an sm-57, which is great in its own right, I mostly use a Sennheiser e609 silver which is about the same price as a 57. In my experience, I have found that it is a bit more neutral in it's frequency response.
