Oh, btw, in case anyone was wondering, it's just the guitar plugged straight into the "vibrato" channel on the amp -- no effects.

good sounding amp STOP PLAYING DIRT

Turn it all the way up, throw on a TS9 then hit record. I want to hear it wail!

Hahaha, OK, I'll spare you the Dirt next time...

The volume is at 3.5 on that recording.  But I'll turn it up somewhere between 5 and 7 and kick on the -20db pad on the mic preamp, and I'll throw a ts9 in the mix -- all for you, buddy.

Sounds nice Keebler.  Yeah crank that bitch up for #2 recording ok?  Do a little Tweeer lick.  I like to use the Tweezer lick to test out my settings.  It's a nice calibrated lick for me.  I also like to play the intro to Limb by Limb to test my clean to light dirt.  I never get sick of that lick.

Also, i saw you posted some "Say It Ain't So" on your audio site; Nice!  You know I love me some Weezer.  I saw them a couple times, once against the stage.  Great band.

So, I'm probably going to do some more recording either on Monday or Tuesday.  Until then, I thought I'd post a picture of the back of the amp, for curiosity's sake.

Unfortunately, this is not a sound sample of what the amp sounds like fully overdriven (I'm still working on how to record that without the ultra-sensitive AKG 414 distorting).  But I think this is still worth adding, because it gives a sense of what the amp sounds like when the volume is up to 4.  Again, it's just the guitar plugged straight into the "vibrato" channel.  Also, again, do not bother clicking "download file" as it will make you take some stupid test or play a game -- instead just click the 'play' button on the embedded player on the webpage, below.  Finally, I just wanted to say, again, that it sounds like shit through laptop speakers so headphones or earbuds are probably your best bet.  I've read that it takes a great producer/engineer to master something in such a way that it sounds great even through shitty speakers.

P.S. - I realize I fucked up the lyrics on the first verse ;)

That is one of the most beautiful guitars ever!  Forgive me for not knowing who the maker of this is, please tell me. ;D

Darrell Cook

But I fashioned the bridge myself from a tune-o-matic piece, brass saddles, and an ebony bridge built for an archtop.  That modification completely changed the sound.

Very nice.  I read an article that a guy that swears by bone as the best saddle material.  David Coleman uses bone I think, but Paul L. uses brass right?  Just trying to get my facts straight.  Anyway, you obviously have a great head on your shoulders and know how to produce great tone.  You are always impressing me with your posts.  Thanks for sharing your knowledge and updates.

I checked out Darrell's site.  Great stuff.  I like that he is original and not ripping off other designs.  As an engineer I can appreciate his use of structure and absence of material in some areas.

Yeah, Paul uses brass for the saddle material, unless you ask for a tune-o-matic.  The latter comes standard with nickel saddles.
