I've been diggin' Nightfall of Diamonds lately - double live disk from the 80's someone gave me a decade ago when I flipped a car and had to lay completely still in the dark for 2 weeks. I listened to it a few times needless to say...

I love the recording quality of the 80's, but also the is a lot of trippy jamminess happening, great tone and energy...

I think some other 80's ones include:
View from the Vault III and IV
Road Trip Volume 3 Number 4, Volume 4 Number 2, Volume 4 Number 4
Download Series Volume 5, 7, 9
Dicks Picks 13, 21, 32
Some of the tunes from Without a Net

I have Without a Net and Dick's Picks 13, but I can't find any of the other's anymore if I ever had them.
Anyway, I think I need to (re)collect some 80's Dead.
Headless Hollowbody > Mesa Boogie MK III > TRM Trucker 212 w/ V30's
Whammy 5 > Mini Wah > 74 Script Phase 90 > CP9Pro+ > 82 TS9 > 83 TS9 > Ross Compressor > Turbo-Tuner > 83 AD9

This is the only correct answer:

If you don't know the story for these shows:  They did a couple 'unannounced' shows, and were billed as The Warlocks at the Hampton.  The first night saw the first performances of Help On the Way and Slipknot! since 1985.  They ended with 'Bid You Goodnight' for the 2nd time since 1978.  The next night is considered one of the best shows ever, including the first Dark Star since 1984, the second Death Don't Have No Mercy since 1971, and the first Attics of My Life since 1972.  Also, the jams are actually pretty good.

Crimson, White, and Indigo is nice one too.

Sweet, Thanks - I'll have to try to find those!

I was just listening to Dick's Picks 13 again and the audio quality is pretty poor- the Caveat Emptor states it came from old tape recordings of the show unfortunately.

PS - Just listened to some of Franklins Tower from Formerly The Warlocks - nice audio quality!
PSS - Crimson is great quality too. I love when the play Stuck Inside of Mobile.

The Road Trips series are great options. The 80's in my opinion are kind of hit or miss though in terms of shows I'll have to reference my Dead shows tonight and get back with some numbers. The 70's though, that's where the genius is.

Yeah I think I have a lot of 70s shows, but lately I've been living good 80s dead. I think they had a lot of hit or miss in their career.

Agreed. I think after 77 it got more noticable for me. Don't get me wrong the above statement though, there are a lot of great 80's and even 90's shows out there. Spring 1990 is a great box set IMHO. If you think that the Dead, or any band for that matter Phish included will play the same way they did 20 years or 10 years then you will be sadly mistaken. You here is used as a disambiguation, or what I mean by anybody. I think that's why a lot of people give Trey s*** because he doesn't shred as much. I don't get it. I missed those years as far as being there but I think that the morphing they're doing now is equally favorable. The dude kicked all these droogz and still plays great, lets give him a hand for not ending up like Hendrix. Sorry for the tangent/mini thread hijack.

Back on the Dead! I don't think you can go wrong with either the 70's or 80's. The 80's saw their most commercial success and a ton of new music, I like the Spectrum show Road Trips, (4,4 I think) with Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson on the cover the best right now but the Midwest Fall is great too. That's 79 though if I remember..

So it's not technically '80's', but this show is really good (albeit hard to find if you wanna get it legally...).  Phil's 50th birthday, I think that means something.

Does this have Catfish john on it, etc?

My uncle saw Hunter play the full album on an acoustic.

I don't think it's got Catfish John.

It's the show from 3-15-1990, inlcudes some fun stuff like a version of "Revolution", a "WE WANT PHIL!" chant, and some really dope jams.

That sounds pretty awesome, I must've been thinking of the extended version of that album.

Yeah, confused the hell out of me when I first heard it.  Also wanted to recommend the album "Truckin' Up to Buffalo", another release from summer '89 (surprised they haven't just gone all box set on that whole year all damn ready).
