I'm going out on a limb here but that clean, textured sound in the begining of limb is Trey on his middle pickup setting, single coil split, and remember that DR had the mid mod, so you should get an EQ pedal with a nice hump with the apex at about 800Hz.  Try that and call me in the moring.

Happy, when you say mid-boost EQ, do you mean without a TS, or in addition to a TS?

I use the in-between setting and coil-tap a lot:
1) volume up>modulation>TS9 = Hendrix (Wind Cries Mary)
2) volume down>TS9 = spanky Trey clean
3) volume up without a TS9 (I was using a PQ9 with the mid frequency set between 6-800) = Knopfler or 80's/90's Dead

I just sold my PQ9 though, went back to rolling back my guitar's volume knob to clean up the lower-gain TS9. Replacing the PQ9 with a Dunlop GCB95 Crybaby Wah: for about a decade+ and stupidly sold it about 4 years ago for a 535Q, which SUCKED. Sold that for a pre-Peavey Budwah. Sold that for a Teese RMC3. Sold that to go Wahless. I thought about getting an AMT Japanese Girl Wah since they are small (like Japanese Girls), or a CAE MC404 cuz I trust Happy's opinion of his, but decided $45 for a nearly-new GCB95 is ideal for me. Tried and true.

I've heard Trey play the intro to limb clean and with mild ts9. I do the same depending on my fancy at the time. Both sound good.
I use my split single coil sound more and more. I usually start most songs in single coil and less than half volume on guitar. I like being able to have room to grow in a song. I'll kick on some humbucker for a solo. The more you switch, the more it becomes obvious that they are quite unique tones.
As for the MC-404, I love it. It's like two wahs in one. Inductors obviously have very unique sounds. I tried for over a year to get my Hendrix Wah to sound warm with my Whipple inductor by modding everything but the inductor. Should have just swapped inductors first. Now I have a bright 70's Shaft sound and a deep Alice in Chains sound with the flip of a side button.

Heady, is the GCB95 new? Because the first pedal I ever bought back in '05 was a GCB95 and it totally robbed the tone from me... didn't buy a pedal until almost 7 years later. Got a silver modded OD9 just a couple weeks after Super Ball.

Ok with all this Limb by Limb talk - can someone post a video on how to play it rhythmically?  I got the chords from Emils tab - buy having a hard time getting the rhythm down.  And post the chords how you all play it?

Thanks!!

Here's how I figure out rhythms:

Listen to the song, and play along, but only use your strumming hand and mute all the strings.  Just pick until you figure out the rhythm.  It's how I finally figured out Weekapaug after trying to get it right for months.

I bought it used, but nearly new. The last one I had I bought new in the 90's (same guitar shop).

I had it in my rig last night at band practice before (not in) my TB looper. In the mix and with my earplugs I didn't notice "tone suck." Trey's is not in a loop either I don't think. However, I plan on moving stuff around on my board and putting it in a TB loop.

Not sure if I will keep it. I didn't use it much last night, but my bandmates liked it when I was noodling before practice. It felt a little on the bright side, but I had my treble up a bit last night and I probably just have to learn to keep it a little closer to the heel down position.

If we're talking technique, I've always loved this riff from the solo. I've figured out how to play it a few different ways, but this is the easiest for my fingers. I've got a GP too, but I don't see a way to add attachments. It's just a simple arpeggio thing. I've been trying to use these types of arpeggio licks more often though. Helps keep thinking chords rather than scales.

Back to tone, to me the lead tone just sounds rounder, smoother, less gainy than his usual tone. Maybe it's the studio, but it's unlike his tone on other SotG tunes. On other tunes it sounds more typical Trey. Like many of you, I like Trey's tone and think it's a good jumping off point. But his typical tone is not what I want. I want this tone.

Dude thanks!  Disregard the other thread for my request haha!

I've always liked this YEM. I think it's dismissed because the jam is only a few minutes long. But I think it is totally different from a lot of stuff they usually play. I personally like jams where Trey leads and the band picks up on what he's doing. It's generally much more melodic to me. Anyway, what's going on with his tone here? It's not his usual tone is it?
